      How to make Dreadlocks

What You'll Need | Washing & Sectioning | Backcombing | Waxing

What you'll need to do the deed...

Here's your check list of stuff to get. If you decide to get the Knotty Boy or Dreadheadhq Dread Kits don't worry to much about this section as most of the goodies are included.

1. A dreading comb.

You need a comb that you can pull hard against and it wont break. Normal plastic bristles will bend and snap off long before your dreadlocks are done. Some fine tooth pet combs will do the trick. The bristles don't need to be long....just strong and close together.
(included in Dreadheadhq Kit) - (included in Knotty Boy Kit)

2. Hair rubber bands.

You could use normal rubber bands but these are better. They are small and black and hold up pretty well through washings. They dont pull your hair as much as regular rubber bands they are nice and small.
(included in Dreadheadhq Kit) - (not included in Knotty Boy Kit)

3. Hair Clips.

Use these for holding hair back while you section and dread. Pretty much any clips will do as long as they can keep the hair out of your way.

4. A friend or two

who likes you a lot.

The Dreading is going to take a little while, it's not that hard to do, but I'd go to Blockbuster and get a few movies for the occasion, make a party out of it. Just don't get too wasted.
(friends and stuff to get you wasted sold separately)

5. A jar of Dread Head

or

Knotty Boy dread wax.

This is what makes it all work. It holds the hair together so it looks better while its locking up and forms tight smooth dreads in less time. We of course recommend Dreadheadhq or Knotty Boy as they are made for Dreads. These waxs work faster, smell better and gives your hair the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and prevent breakage. If you have to settle for another brand, just make sure it doesn't contain petroleum such as Murrays Wax, your better off using nothing then Murrays.
One jar should last you about 3 to 6 months depending on hair length etc.
(included in Dreadheadhq Kit 200gram jar) - (included in Knottyboy Kit 120gram jar)

6. A residue free

Shampoo

What you need is a soap that rinses completely clean and doesn't leave any conditioners, residues or perfume scents on your hair. Everything soap leaves behind acts as a lubricant that lets your dreads slip apart.
(included in Dreadheadhq Kit 475ml bottle) - (included in Knotty Boy Kit 120gram bar)
